Do you think the city should do more to build bike trails and paths?
Rita Smart answered:
I know the city has done some work with an EKU class in mapping potential bike and walking trails. I have met with that group as well as a task force with the county health department to explore ways to promote trails and paths for healthy living. As a member of the Bluegrass ADD tourism, historic and rails committee, I see first-hand what some other communities are doing and certainly think our city should come together and make this an inportant focus for all our citizens. Mike's Hike and Bike shop in downtown Richmond is doing a wonderful job educating people about bike safety and promoting family activities. This week-end we had our first bike race downtown and hope to possibly make that into a bike and health festival next year. I talked with the event organizer from Louisville and he said London, Ky has a hugh event. Again, the success of these type activities is citizen involvement. If you want to make it happen, talk to the city officials.
