What is your position on future growth and development issues as they affect the city?

Ian Ward answered:

Thank you for your question. Our community has consistently faced the issue of growth for each of the last several years. Areas that were farmland just a year or so ago are now home to brand new homes or storefronts. Just like a number of other vital issues, we need leaders that can approach growth management in a way that makes sense and is sustainable for our future. It isn’t appropriate to construct student apartments in the center of Lancaster Avenue or to allow for political promises to make way for spot zoning within a district of 80 year old homes. That being said, the task at hand is to work closely with the planning and zoning commission and Dr. Marionneaux to develop a focused comprehensive plan that allows us to move forward anticipating those changes we are able to foresee.
